INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS & TIPS
SITE PREPARATION (USE FOR ALL TERMINATION METHODS)
1.Determine the best place for the tape wire to be run and the terminations to be located, out of the way of traffic areas and preferably next to a wall. Be sure the surface is clean and dust-free. Alcohol wipes (NOT WINDOW CLEANER) can be used to prep area for installation.
2.Measure the length the tape wire will be run, adding a few inches at each end for safety. It is not recommended to cut prior to the actual installation of the tape wire. Determine if tape wire will be used directly connected to the equipment, or if a pigtail ( solder or terminal block splice) to standard cable and connectors will be used.
3.Make sure that all power to the system is turned off.
4.Follow the wires out from the equipment to the point where tape wire is to be connected. Cut the wires and strip the ends 1/2". If using the terminal block termination, insert the stripped ends of the wires into one side of the terminal block (Fig. 1) and tighten with small flat blade screwdriver.
5.To prepare the tape wire for termination, peel back and cut off 1/2" of the pink peel-off liner . See Fig. 2. To release the copper conductors, break the adhesive by gently running a screwdriver or blade down both sides of both conductors. Do not cut through the clear or white tape. See Fig. 3. Peel tape away from conductors and trim tape off even with peel-off liner. See Fig. 4.
FOR TERMINAL BLOCK TERMINATION / SPLICE
6.Using scissors, slit the copper conductors down the center about 1/2". Cross one side of the slit ends on top of the other and fit into terminal block on side opposite the round wire. Make sure wire is inserted far enough that all bare copper is inside of the connector. Use small flat blade screwdriver to tighten screws. See Fig. 5. NOTE: Make sure to keep the polarity markings the same at each end.
7.Attach terminal block to wall or floor with screw.
FOR SOLDER TERMINATION / SPLICE
8.Follow steps 1-5. Pre-tin the ends of the tape wire conductors using a regular soldering iron and solder together with the existing system's wire. NOTE: Make sure to keep the polarity markings the same at each end. Cool and insulate with electrical tape.
TO ATTACH SPEAKER PINS
9.Flat wire can be attached to many different types of speakers simply by bending the flat copper conductors round. Use a straightened paper clip as a mold, place it on top of the conductor, and use needle nose pliers to fold the conductor round. If desired, standard speaker pins can be crimped on. To use screw-on style connectors, slit the flat conductors with scissors as in fig. 5, except use 2 cuts, then thread the slit wire into one side of the screw-on connector, fold the ends over, and screw on the other side of the pin as directed on the connector directions. NOTE: Make sure to keep the polarity markings the same at each end.
TAPE WIRE INSTALLATION
10.Attach the tape wire as follows. Peel back about 2" of the pink peel-off liner to expose adhesive. Position the tape in the desired location and press to secure. Continue to line up, peel, and press the cable into place along the entire installation surface. Take care when positioning the tape wire because the adhesive is strong and can be difficult to remove.
11.To make a turn with the tape wire, simply fold wire back and then over itself. See Fig. 6. Press as smooth and flat as possible.
12.tape wire can be painted, spackled and painted, or wallpapered.
WARNING: Use AWS tape wire for installation of low voltage security, speaker, or telephone systems only.
NOT FOR USE WITH HIGH VOLTAGE 120V AC HOUSEHOLD CIRCUITS.
